Last year we survived! |
Hi friends, colleagues and former colleagues and those who haven’t a clue who I am:
See our new money raising project and donate at http://www.justgiving.com/michael-duffy6
After a test run on my retirement to the Scilly Isles from Bristol, I persuaded four (mad) friends to join me in an annual cycle ride for charity.
Following a successful ride from Penzance to Bristol two years ago and from Bangor to Bristol last year the Grumpies [Roger Ayton, David Bruce, Ken Clarke, Michael Duffy and Nigel Seaman] are hitting the road again in aid of Cancer Research UK . This time, over the bank holiday weekend, we are going international, pedalling from Paris to Bristol over four days. We are setting ourselves a target to raise £1000 for the charity. Its about 250 miles in the saddle plus the ferry and we are taking the train to Paris so it is a low carbon charity challenge.
Please visit our Just Giving web page at http://www.justgiving.com/michael-duffy6 and help us to raise some funds. I am sure we have all been touched in one way or another by the impact of cancer either on ourselves, friends or family. With your help Cancer Research UK can continue their wonderful work in combating this deadly disease. Many of you will know David's wife, Diana Bruce and how Cancer Research (UK) helped fund the treatment that has virtually eliminated all her Leukaemia symptoms. And their recent findings re the importance of exercise in the battle against all forms of cancer is obviously very good news to the five of us!
You can also donate via text message if you prefer - just send a message containing TEXS80 and the amount you wish to donate [e.g. TEXS80 £10] to 70070. You will receive a reply text asking if you'd like Gift Aid to be collected on your donation - which enables the charity to reclaim an additional 25% tax back on your donation. Enter the web link given in the reply text in a web browser to give your details and any encouraging message you'd like to add. Simple as that! Justtextgiving, supported by Vodafone, is free for you and the charity.
Needless to say, all contributions raised will go to the charity - you will not be funding our travelling costs or our lifestyle during the trip, from the 25 to the 29 August!
